A community of leaders make up my classroom. My 26 fourth grade students, or as I like to say, scholars, are admirable. They are scholars because they have set their goals high and work even harder to achieve them. They are college-bound with incredible dreams.
From answering in complete sentences, to reading in the hallway as they walk, to asking for even more homework, my scholars go above and beyond the nerdy level.
They love being nerds. Our class motto is: nerds helping other nerds be even nerdier.
I cannot keep up with how many books my scholars have read this year and that is why I need your help! They are wanting more books to read because they have a hard time putting them down.
In order for these scholars to be our leaders of tomorrow, we need to prepare them for tomorrow. We need to allow scholars to research and also teach them how to research. Scholars need to be comfortable using technology. They need to be taught not only how to use it, but how to use it well.
Amazon Fire Tablets are the perfect technology tool for the classroom to get students fired up about learning.
They are inexpensive, durable, and are versatile.
With the Amazon Fire you can: read a book, follow the Scientific Method through a virtual lab on Discovery Education, create a video about your research or book report, make a virtual math journal of math around the classroom, research a topic, use a math app, and the list goes on.
This year, I plan on using them for reading, writing, and science.
The four tablets would be a perfect addition to our reading schedule. Students independent read for a block of time, meet with me in a small group, and also go to the library. If we had the four tablets, I could have students go on the Epic Book App and read one of thousands of books. This would allow my students access to more books. With more books, this will give them more knowledge.
Integration of subjects helps students make more sense of the world around them. When we write, we also research to add details to our thesis argument. This is a crucial skill that every child needs to learn. By having access to the tablets, students can fact check their writing. We can also start researching Social Studies standards such as historical significance of monuments, landmarks, and historical sites.
We love Discovery Education and would love to have tablets for small group research.
