Finishing Out the Year Strong with a Learning Academy
Help me give my students reflection journals, writing and drawing utensils, sticky notes, stress-relief coloring pages, and useful sensory fidgets as we conduct important small group learning academies at the counselor's ffice!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This project is intended to help supply our counselor's small group room with various items that are essential in delivering high quality social, emotional, and academic counseling lessons to students. The academies that we conduct will focus on organizational skills, motivation skills, navigating peer relationships, emotional regulation, and building positive self-efficacy. The blank writing journals and variety of sticky notes will be extremely helpful in providing students with a way to self-reflect, share thoughts, create goals, and build positive growth mindsets. Also, many middle school students frequently need an outlet for anxious energy, and will use the specific fidgets, activities, and tools we have chosen in this list to help calm their minds and settle their nerves so that they can be more productive in the classroom setting.
Our time with these middle school students is extremely precious, since it is a time where they are at a unique developmental stage in life.
They are beginning to develop important critical thinking skills, forming their own identities and opinions about the world and where they fit in, while also learning how to meet the demand of higher academic expectations that will impact their futures. We hope that these behavior academies will provide the connection and support they need to feel successful as they rise to face the challenges of middle school!
