My students need several items to complete their game closet wish list. We asked for markers and fish food for their classroom fishes. We asked for arm supports and pre-k level games.
I am a special education teacher. I teach students who have a range of physical and mental disabilities, but this does not define who they are as individuals or students.
The students in my classroom work on functional skills that include taking care of the classroom, washing and folding, shredding, as well as classroom work like reading and math.
The students in my classroom are super stars of their school. Students in the general population stop by our classroom to say hi to our students and sit with them to decompress. We have the most loving, bright, and cheerful students in the school. Some of the students in my class have major heart and breathing conditions, some have met their life expectancy, some are wheelchair bound, some are autistic or have down syndrome, some have trouble speaking and moving, but you would never know they are in pain. We have the bravest most inspirational students in the district. They are our heroes and they deserve every opportunity to reach their full potential and to have a successful life in their community after high school.
My Project
The students often do not come to school with classroom supplies or materials. We have asked for some markers and reusable workbooks for them to use. We have asked for several Orchard brand games. These games discuss grocery shopping and healthy lunch eating. We received one in our last order and the students loved how bright and easy to follow this game was. It was very simple and the students followed the steps well.
We also asked for some arm supports for health reasons.
Its hard for students to hold their arms straight or up to play games or to write, these supports will help stabilize their arms to allow them to participate in activities and prevent them from eating the game pieces. We also included a can of fish food for our classroom fish. The students take turns feeding the fish and enjoy having them to watch in our classroom. It gives them a sense of responsibility.
We are excited to finish out our game closet and wish list this year. We appreciate all the support and kindness our students have been shown this school year by donors choose donors.
