My students are all long-term English Language Development (ELD) students. This means they have been in the district for 5+ years, so they are mostly fluent, but still benefit from support in academic English written and oral communication.
My students are diverse, worldly, resilient and hilarious.
They mostly speak Spanish at home, but other languages include Chinese, Tagalog, and Samoan. They range from hyper and chatty (6th graders) to moody and cliquey (7th graders) to inquisitive and critical (8th graders).
After a week of painting, the murals are almost done! They are looking lively and colorful; other teachers have complimented us. The materials ran out, and there is one more wall, plus some touch ups. We also need more sealant to protect everything from the elements. Thanks for supporting, and with this we can finish the murals!
These materials will help us complete the project, which asks the ELD and Spanish students to come up with positive images and messages that represent our community.
They have created group and personal murals all around the 3rd floor courtyard, as well as a message of peace on the bulletin board in the 3rd floor hallway.
