This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am teaching 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade self-contained special education this year. My students have multiple disabilities including Severe Emotional Disturbance and Behavioral Disorders. These kiddos need hands-on, interactive learning. I want to offer them the most engaging classroom so that they will be unstoppable while achieving their goals in my class! These students need to nurture their creative spirits with hands-on activities. I want to provide cross-curricular instruction and your support will go a long way in achieving our goals!
My Project
Our school has an Occupational Therapist that recommends theraputty to build writing endurance for my students who are becoming writers. My students hurt after short writing assignments because their fine motor skills are so weak and lacking. Unfortunately, we are not supplied with the materials to help my students build their fine motor skills.
My students need these supplies to build their stamina to be able to physically write appropriately and complete given writing assignments.
My students are learning how to write, and it was also recommended that they use the paper that has visual color difference to be able to write in the appropriate sizes.
All of this hard work to become better writers can be difficult for some students. I would like to have a body sock available to provide sensory input for students to utilize appropriate coping techniques. The gel balls will also be available in our cool down area for students to use as an appropriate coping method. The grl balls will also work on fine tuning their fine motor skills!
