This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Thank you for choosing to view my project. I am a Pre-K teacher and work with four-year-olds in a low-income/high-poverty, urban school. My students struggle to meet daily needs due to limited resources at home. They come to school hungry, tired, and their clothes are not always clean. We have a washer and dryer at school and assist them when they are in need. We have a backpack program that sends food weekly to these students to ensure they have something to eat. They are desperate for attention and just want to be loved.

Even during their struggles, my students are motivated and eager to learn.

They are always happy and energetic when at school. I may not have control over their personal lives, but it is my goal to provide them with the best education possible!

My Project

Many of my students struggle with fine motor skills so I have requested resources they can use daily to improve in this area. Most of the resources such as pom poms, tweezers, and tongs will be used during our sensory learning station so students will have practice squeezing and picking up objects. Cutting is an area they struggle with as well so we will use the set of scissors to replace the ones we sent home for students to use while we are currently virtual due to Covid. Building a strong foundation of fine motor skills will greatly benefit them in all their years of school especially in pencil grasp, hand-eye coordination, confidence, and development of communication skills: writing, drawing, and talking.

Fine motor activities help to develop the skills my students need for different activities such as writing, cutting, and coloring.

Our students are in need of adaptive tools to help support their writing and cutting skills.
