This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you ever remember writing a long letter and having your hand cramp up? Many of my students struggle writing out their spelling words, they start to complain that their hand hurts. Theses students need chances to develop their fine motor skills in ways that are more fun than writing.

They are Special Day Class students.

Many of whom have attention and motor skill deficits. We work on strategies to help them with their writing, cutting, coloring and attention building skills daily. Many of these tasks are becoming monotonous and having fun and more interesting tasks would help to motivate them.

My Project

Theraputty, magnetic puzzles, and letter stencils will help my students develop their fine motor skills. These skills are necessary in developing their handwriting, coloring and cutting skills. The stencils and sand box will be used as a center to help the students understand the shapes of letters and how they are made. They will also use the theraputty and twist and write pencils to strengthen their hands and pencil grips. We do not have these supplies readily available to all students in the classroom, and all of the students could benefit greatly from using them.

We all struggled when we first learned how to write, these students struggle a little bit more than we may have.

By allowing them to utilize theraputty and magnetic puzzles, they would be increasing their hand strength and their hand eye coordination which will make everyday tasks not seem as difficult to them. Also the use of twist and write pencils will help them develop a better pencil grip. While the manuscript stencils and sand box will help them develop proper letter formation.
