Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in my fine arts classroom consist of pre-k through fifth graders. They have the energy and enthusiasm to explore and create, but we are lacking the supplies to make their ideas come alive.
The community my students come from is primarily low income, and all of them receive free breakfast and lunch.
These students do not have the much-needed supplies or resources they need to succeed, especially in the fine arts. They have virtually no experience or exposure to any fine arts, whether it be visual, theater, or even music.
My Project
Due to the unusual situation we are currently in, my students are hungry for new and exciting stories and books that help inspire them. I teach art to my face to face students at the same time as students at home on Zoom. I am constantly looking to add to our fine arts classroom library. Books like "The Color Monster" added to my art lessons will help my students grasp concepts easier. The Selena book will help my students relate culturally to her story and inspire them to believe that anything is possible. These books will be a wonderful addition to our learning and will expand my students' creativity.
