Our scholars are extremely bright. They are gifted in many respects. The amount of determination I have seen come from our scholars astounds me practically everyday. They are passionate about their work. They are enthusiastic about their school. They are VEHEMENTLY determined in their work as well, which is why I love teaching music to these kids.
Our scholars are driven with every new piece of music to perform it at the highest level possible because they see every challenge as something completely attainable.
This is great for me because I can put ridiculously hard music on their stand and they will, with enough time and practice, play it well. They never give up.
My Project
Our budget is extremely limited and we have not been able to purchase the percussion instruments we need. We currently have a couple of student bell kits for melodic percussion parts but they can only do so much.
The level of music my students are playing now has stretched us to the point where we can't get by without a xylophone any longer.
We have been coming up with alternative instrumentation for the percussion instruments we don't have for the past 3 years.
The fundraising we have done this year has got us close to what we needed. However, our music budget was cut in half and our program grew by two more performing groups.
