This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are beginning a unit on rocks in the library. Our primary student K-2nd grade will be doing a hands-on unit combined with children's literature to learn how rocks and gems form. They will be exploring the three kids of rocks, sorting and exploring the characteristics of rocks.

In this using students will be using water, screens, and tweezers to look through large rocks and very small gravel with gemstone concentrate to "discover" all kinds of rocks and gems.

Kids love rocks and what ever gems or rocks they find they can keep in their sheer gift bags and take home their treasure. This unit is fun and informative for students and will get them excited about science.
