This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Being a 9th graders is a tough transition in todays world. Students are looking for relevancy and connects, especially when they are searching for who they are to themselves and the world. The unit I have created about Journeys of Transformation explores themes of teens and their transitions in life, their mental health, how they see themselves, and what does that mean for their identity. These books would help support 3 sections of 9th grade Humanities classes.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower will help my 9th graders connect with literature because the character is in the same place they are; searching for friendships, identity, support for mental health, and even dealing with trauma.

Having a book that relates directly to them makes a significant difference in how students understand literature.

Your support for this project will mean a lot to students who don't always get new books to use in the classroom, especially at a time when education budgets are being cut.
