My students need books that will help them learn and make connections with the math concepts introduced in second grade. These books will help my students take abstract concepts and make them more concrete.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of my students come from low income homes where there parents speak little to no English. They are all ESL students who's first language is Spanish. The majority of my students receive free or reduced lunch but they come to school with a smile on their face and eager to learn!
I teach in a Title I school in Jacksonville, Texas and my classroom consist of students who's ethnic background is Hispanic and they are all ELL learners.
I want to create a love of books and reading and learning in my students!
My Project
I teach two classes of ESL learners and many of my students struggle with basic second grade math concepts. I want to integrate read alouds into my daily math routine to help my students make connections between their everyday life and the math they learn in the classroom.
These math theme books will make math fun and engaging and make it come alive for my students by showing them how math is used in their everyday lives.
They will show them that we use math when we are doing something simple such as sharing a cookie with a friend or spending our allowance.
