Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a first generation college student, I am extremely mindful of the community I serve while working at a Title 1 designated school. As a teacher, I strive to create an environment which promotes college, regardless of age. I strive to create a community of life-learners who practice The Four Agreements and In Lak'ech in and out of our classroom community.
My students are passionate about learning and being their best selves.
We work togerther to set personal, group, and classroom goals. We create systems of accountability, we celebrate our gains, and reflect on our shortcomings. My students are special, but most importantly they are powerful.
My Project
This project is aimed at developing a print rich classroom as well as purchasing culturally responsive texts for read alouds. Posters such as the Como te Sientes Hoy Poster will help students identify how they are feeling when they are upset or when they are overjoyed.
Having texts for read alouds in which students feel represented is powerful for them and will aid them in developing their literacy skills and build a positive relationship with reading.
Texts such as La Llorona and El Cucuy will help students find power in the stories they aready know. These stories will keep students engaged and help them grow in their literacy development.
