Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We represent the Wellness Center at SCHS. We are tasked with promoting mental health awareness and providing mental health interventions for our school. One of the clubs on our campus, Bring Change to Mind (BC2M), focuses directly on promoting mental health awareness in our student body. Our BC2M student-led group is planning to participate in a school-wide Wellness Week by offering the opportunity for the wider student body to make their own Calming Jars during a lunchtime tabling event. A calming jar is a jar full of liquid, glitter, and small floating charms that settles very slowly when it is shaken. Calming jars have been shown to promote mindfulness and lower stress in people who use them. Wellness Week at our school happens shortly before finals, and the BC2M club hopes that having calming jars will help students stay centered and focused during this stressful period.

In order to create calming jars, students will need:

- Jars

- Funnels to get liquids and glitter into the jars.

- Glycerine and White Glue to increase the viscosity of the water, which prevents the glitter from settling too quickly.

- Glitter and Small charms to float in the finished liquid.
