Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 6th grade students with Specialized Academic Instruction plans. I have the great fortune of working with some real dedicated students whom, out of respect and a true deep desire to learn, always give me their best effort in class. This year like many years, 100% of my students come from lower income homes, some can be considered in poverty, yet their desire to learn and get ahead is huge. This is why I've come to this site for help. I want to advance my kids as much as I can in the year that they're with me. I want their life experience to grow outside their small neighborhoods. With your help, I'm confident we can expose my kids to more learning, more meaningful experiences, and deepen their understanding of the world around them.
My Project
My students are mostly confined to a small reality which they call life. A lot of the times, they are surrounded by beauty, yet fail to see it. With these instant cameras and film, I hope to catch a glimpse of my students' lives artistically and open up their minds to think creatively about the world that surrounds them. These tools will help drive them to explore the world outside and help them appreciate those little moments that make life interesting. I hope to inspire them to go beyond what they see and know every day.
Through art and photography, I hope to open their minds and guide them to new windows from which to see the work which surrounds us.
I find that too often your young minds are trapped by televisions and electronic devices which inhibit them from exploration and experimentation. With these tools, I hope to push my student's comfort zones and encourage them to grow through actively seeking out beauty around them.
