This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As the College Adviser for Tennyson High School (THS) I primarily work with first-generation, low-income high school students from historically underrepresented ethnic backgrounds. At THS, I am dedicated to guiding these students through the college application process and this also includes the financial aid process. I am passionate about ensuring that my students of these unique intersectional backgrounds, have the support they need to prepare for their post-secondary options. Since a great portion of these students come from low-income families, they are more likely to face food insecurity and are unable to consistently purchase food or snacks to sustain them through these applications. My school seniors have been working hard on their college applications and I want to support that hard work while at the same time ensuring my students have access to what they need.

These snacks are more than just a treat, it is meant to provide these students a consistent sense of belonging within our school's growing college-going culture, especially for our senior class of 486 seniors.

I offer financial aid guidance through individual advising as well as workshops. Help build a college-going culture and increase access to higher education for first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented high school students and their families by Financing and Feeding our First Gen College Bound Seniors.
