Financial Literacy With Chromebooks Part 3

My Students

Love to sing, create, move and learn? You've come to the right place! Our third-grade classroom is a place of exploration, music, movement and the excitement of learning. We are a high poverty school located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Our area is very rural. The closest semi-large city is over four hours away. Many of us may not have seen an escalator or an art museum, but we are creative, resourceful, problem-solvers, and know how to have fun in the snow (well over 200 inches in a season).

We are building a classroom community as we support each other, dig into technology, discover the world around us, and dream big!

My Project

Balancing a checkbook, budget planning, and shopping all require financial literacy and strong math skills.

A Chromebook will help my students access online math programs such as Freckle, XtraMath, and Splash Math to develop math skills at their own pace.

With strong addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and problem-solving skills, my students will develop their understanding of the value of money and be able to calculate a plan to save for desired items.

Freckle uses coins to reward students for correct answers. Students then use these coins to visit the "Piggy Store" to buy characters and items to use as they continue their math adventure.
