My third graders have absolutely loved having these new hands-on materials in our classroom. The shelf has been such a helpful addition too. It keeps everything organized and makes it easy for students to independently choose and put away the games.\r\n\r\nWe use the games during our makerspace time, indoor recess, and as part of early finisher choices. One moment that really stood out was when a small group worked on a tricky logic puzzle. They got stuck at first, but instead of giving up, they talked through different strategies and kept trying until they solved it. The celebration when they figured it out was priceless!\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were beyond excited. There were huge smiles and lots of eager questions about when they could start. They couldn't wait to dive in.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we're connecting these games to our math and science lessons by focusing on explaining our thinking and trying different problem-solving strategies. Next, students will even begin creating their own simple challenges for classmates to solve.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has made a real impact in our classroom. So far, my 1st and 2nd grade classes have enjoyed the additional challenge that these kits bring when learning about circuits. My first graders have used them to learn about sound as part of their science unit in STEM on sound waves. The kids were excited to be able to build a circuit that makes different sounds. We will continue to use these to show how sound waves can move other objects as they travel.\r\n\r\nMy second graders are using these kits to also expand upon their circuitry knowledge as a stepping stone to the more complicated kits that they will use in the older grades. These kits help them to learn how a circuit is made and how to troubleshoot when the circuit isn't working. They are learning about proper installation of batteries, checking that there are no gaps in the circuit, and that the correct pieces are in the circuit. They learn to follow a diagram for building the circuits and checking their work.\r\n\r\nAs the students advance, they will learn more advanced skills in circuitry beyond the Snap Circuit Kits by the end of Elementary school!","fullyFundedDate":1764785588894,"projectUrl":"project/snappy-circuits-teach-about-stem-careers/9903767/","projectTitle":"Snappy Circuits Teach About STEM Careers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Nordmark","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3040485_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1731375027669","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-nordmark"},{"teacherId":3040485,"projectId":8931659,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting my STEM classroom!
