Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Someone once said, "Let us explore the world and create some wonderful things while you are exploring."
My goal this school year is to give my students lots of opportunities to explore and create wonderful things.
The kids at our school are kindergarten through fifth grade students, and most of these students are English language learners. All of our students are enthusiastic learners who, regardless of the obstacles they may face at home, come to school with a thirst for knowledge and the urge to try and experience new things every day.
My Project
Over the last few years, I have been teaching financial skills to my students. I have a system where my students earn class money for the great work they do throughout the day/week. Every Friday, they are able to spend at our class store or choose to save.
My students are learning skills such as counting coins, calculating change, and saving for higher priced items.
When I first started this program, students wanted to spend every cent they had every week. Now the majority of them are saving. It’s great to see their progress.
I’m asking for support to help me continue this program with more items to fill my store. Having a container with high interest items such as, bracelets, candy, and plush toys in the store will help my students be more willing to earn and save money.
