Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager to learn and willing to try, but they have the odds stacked against them to succeed. Your generous support can help my students be successful.
I am a fourth-grade teacher in a low-income urban area in New Jersey and more than 90% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My students cannot afford to purchase the necessary supplies for the classroom. I have general education students, special education students, as well as students learning the English Language in my classroom.
Our school is in an urban area. Many of my students are reading at 2-3 grade levels below 4th grade. Despite these challenges, the climate of our school is nurturing and sets high expectations for all students.
My Project
My students need to learn about financial literacy starting at a young age. To create excitement about teaching money management skills, I will use games and books. Games such as Life, Monopoly, and Buy It Right will help students learn money concepts while having fun. The books will bring in concepts of money management in the stories students can read independently.
The selection of board games, dry erase pockets, and books will teach my students choice and encourage them to learn important money management skills that are necessary so they can become financially responsible adults.
Those skills are important to learn as a youngster.
