Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a low income school district, and we may sometimes not have access to supplies like the ones I am asking for due to many budget cuts in our district. We will begin to focus on recognizing and counting money. I will teach my students why using their money wisely is important.
My students are enthusiastic third graders, who enjoy hands-on activities and read alouds.
They enjoy reading books at the library and enjoy participating in classroom discussions. They enjoy hands on activities, working on projects, and presenting their projects to their classmates. They take so much pride in their work. Though they sometimes have trouble with the many new math concepts in third grade, they persevere and don't give up.
My Project
My students need common core standards display cards and a pocket chart for me to display to let them know our goals and objectives. The Math Discovery Cans will help my students review place value, time, measurement, and counting money. The Money can will help them practice counting up realistic coins, calculating sums with a money cube, buying items priced in a flip book, and more! The Math Folder Games will boost their math skills (including counting money), in a fun and cooperative way. We need the School to Home organizers to keep their classwork and homework in. In order to be financially literate, my students will also need to be fluent readers. This is why I am requesting the leveled books, mobile cart, and bins to store our books. We need the heavy duty bins to store our math manipulatives, which include place value blocks, and plastic coins. I am requesting the the magnetic coins to use while modeling how to count money with my students.
My project will make a difference because it will bring so many important materials into our classroom that will help my students be successful in math and become financially literate.
It also includes supplies that will help them become literate.
