This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My Film Production students grow more talented with each film project they produce, but it pains me that I don't have film and photography books. I want to let students slow down and engage with strong prose, beautiful images, and captivating narratives that can strengthen their photography/cinematography and storytelling skills while also helping to build their literacy.

Children of immigrants or immigrants themselves, my students are challenged economically and academically.

Many struggle to support their own families through part-time jobs or through household responsibilities. The combination of socioeconomic and academic struggles creates a great challenge for my community of students. Despite their economic hurdles, my students are avid learners who utilize whatever available resources they have to complete objectives. This year alone, they made incredible projects with the limited resources available to them.

The books I've included in this project include many classic staples that all students learning about framing and composition should be exposed to, including Ansel Adams landscape photography collections. Further, I'm requesting a "group set" (one copy per filming group) of Understanding Exposure, another fantastic book that helped me as a photography student in getting me to think about exposure triangles and how f-stops, ISO, and shutter speeds work together to produce a well-exposed image.

I very much look forward to sharing these books with my students and giving them time to engage with film and photography, but in a different medium. Many thanks for considering this project!
