This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My Film Studies class is made up of students excited and engaged in taking part in making short film projects. They are often full of ideas and enthusiasm to create their portfolios. I want to give them access to the best (budget-conscious) equipment to complete their Portfolios and turn those ideas into the best short films possible.

As part of the IB Film Assessments students must submit a Film Portfolio consisting of clips and a complete short film.

Almost all of my students use their phones to film as they lack funds and access to more professional film gear. I am building up an equipment store of budget friendly gear for them to use. Gimbals and tripod adapters help keep their shots steady, lighting reflectors give them flexibility to make those shots look as cinematic as possible, lavalier and Zoom microphones allow their films to have sound (an overlooked but vital role in filmmaking and the portfolio) of a quality not possible with a smartphone microphone.

I hope to continue building my classroom's store of equipment to give my students experience with that equipment during class and to create projects of the quality I know they are capable.
