Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with amazing students that are eager to learn the tools that they need to achieve grade-level standards. Our school is a Title I campus, which positions my students in an economic disadvantage.
In addition, these students are English Language Learners, giving them another challenge to overcome.
Unfortunately, our school was flooded by Hurricane Harvey. I have seen an amazing amount of progress in their tests; however, there is still room for growth and increase vocabulary and world knowledge.
My Project
Every day I pull my small groups, 3-5 students at a time, to help them build the literacy skills, phonological awareness, blending and decoding, relationships between sound and letter and also to help support social-emotional.
The books are to build that strong foundation of world knowledge and expand their vocabulary.
The tablet is to support those students that have a basic reading disability by using speech-to text, listening to audio books, explore the letter formation in different medias and image description by looking at pictures.
The game of states and bingo are to make a strong relationship between social studies and literacy.
