They love to engage in hands-on activities where they get to try new things.
Our students are diverse in their family structures, cultures, race, and socioeconomic status. As a school counselor, I get to work with all 400 students on a personal basis. I have the privilege of hearing their awe-inspiring life stories and helping them navigate situations at home and school. Our school is located in Brooklyn Center, MN which is right outside of Minneapolis.
My Project
If my project is funded, I will fill my social-emotional learning library with books that represent my students. I want the books that I read to my students to be culturally relevant. I want my students to be able to say, “Hey! That character looks like me!” It will make social-emotional learning more relevant and impactful for all students. I will use these books in individual counseling sessions, small group counseling sessions, and in my weekly classroom lessons. I will also lend them to the staff at my school when they ask for books to support students in their learning spaces. These books will be very well-loved!
