My students love engaging in social-emotional learning. They want to do activities that apply to their everyday lives. Over the past year, I have been able to build a fun and interactive comprehensive school counseling program. I teach students how to succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and in their future career. I do this through hands-on interactive learning. But, I want to do more. I want every lesson I teach to be as engaging and memorable as possible. These materials will play many roles in making my school counseling program the best that it can be. The games will be used to help students gain new friends in friendship groups and buddy lunches. The clay will be used in the 5th-grade classrooms for every student to create a worry stone. The books will be used to talk to students and classrooms about important social-emotional topics such as mindfulness, breathing, and empathy. The Hoberman sphere will be used to teach students how to calm down and take deep breaths. The dollhouse will be used in play therapy, as students vividly reenact true and imagined life experiences. The fire will be used in mindfulness circles where we imagine ourselves around a campfire. The stools will be used to create an interactive and exciting space for my small group sessions. The chimes will be used to further develop my mindfulness and yoga calm sessions. The paper shredder will be an awe-inspiring visual for students as they "shred" their worries away. These materials will help bring my school counseling program to life!
