Filling a Covid Gap with Phonemic Awareness and Alphabet Learning

Help me give my students the foundational skills for reading! By providing these resources for our kids, we can have our technicians support them in small group instruction! It's a win-win for our overworked teachers to have supplies!

My Students

I am a Title I Coordinator at an amazing school. I work closely with teachers and para professionals to support students who have fallen behind, or need additional support in reading. Our students have come from amazing families who work hard to support them. T Sometimes, additional support at school is needed. Through assessments, we have found that we have a core group of second grade students, and many third grade students who are struggling with phonemic awareness (sounds in our language), as well as learning and retaining the alphabet. Typically, these skills are taught within the regular curriculum of the classroom. However, the last two years have had an impact with high absenteeism and on-line learning. Phonemic awareness is hard for students to learn on-line because the engagement and follow-through is difficult.

Therefore, I am proposing that we have a spot in our school library that has phonemic awareness games, alphabet learning games, and hands-on learning activities for students who need additional support in filling their educational gaps and developing skills to automaticity.

If we had this, it would support students with gaps, and help prevent students going to future grade levels with gaps. Any support would be greatly

My Project

I have several students who are unable to retain alphabet learning. By providing them with highly engaging, sensory, and manipulative experiences, we can close their learning gap - help them make more than a year's growth in this academic year!

Additionally, through the pre-made phonemic awareness activities, these activities provide an engaging visual stimuli for students so they will stay engaged as they are supported with these building blocks of reading.

By closing the learning gaps at an early age, it will support them to become fluent readers!

We have the technicians to do the work - we just need the materials!
