My students need a good classroom library that is filled with different leveled readers to help them feel successful at such an important skill.

My Students

We serve an underprivileged area in upstate NY. The budget for a classroom is very minimal if at all. The students come from hard working families that just want the best for their children, but cannot afford a computer for home. Most of my students read at or below 2nd grade. Reading is not a piority for most of my students families because they are worried about safety, and making enough money for rent and food. My students disabilities range from Emotionally disturbed to on the autistic spectrum, which makes them easily frustrated, and quick to anger, if something doesn't work correctly. The students are grateful for any donation that they can recieve to inprove their educational expierence.

My Project

My students classroom library is very limited. I would love to offer them a variety of books at their own level. They deserve to feel successful. I would love to have a lending library of fiction, non-fiction and best seller books for the children to have easier access to bring home, and open their world's to the awesome world of reading! I would love for them to start loving reading at such an early age, and have them carry it throughout their lives, like I did. Books can transport you to different worlds, and perhaps even have them learn something new. Reading does all that, and will help them become stronger readers.
