Through a previous grant, I was able to obtain a greenhouse that provides an immersive learning environment where students can observe plant growth and learn about environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and light. It serves as a hands-on laboratory. However, now we need more supplies and equipment to continue to explore the various uses of the greenhouse.
The new supplies and equipment will help with the following initiatives in the greenhouse.
Providing quality soil and a variety of seeds will enable students to conduct experiments and explore topics such as germination, soil composition, and plant nutrition. They will observe the effects of different growing conditions on plant development and apply scientific inquiry to understand underlying processes. Implementing irrigation systems will teach students about water conservation and efficient resource management. They will learn how to design, install, and maintain irrigation systems, applying principles of engineering and sustainability in a real-world setting. Also, Access to gardening tools such as shovels, rakes, and pruners will allow students to actively engage in garden maintenance tasks and develop practical gardening skills. Working with tools will promote fine motor skills, coordination, and teamwork, while also fostering a sense of empowerment and confidence.
By engaging in sustainable gardening practices and learning about the interconnectedness of ecosystems, students will develop a greater appreciation for the environment and a sense of responsibility toward conserving natural resources. Students will become responsible for planting and maintaining various planters and pots on school grounds.
Our students demonstrate a genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, eagerly engaging in hands-on activities and exploration both inside and outside the classroom. Our students possess resilience and creativity, overcoming challenges and adapting to new situations with optimism and ingenuity. They approach learning with an open mind and a willingness to take risks.
