This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a fully funded Title I school located in middle Georgia and recently became the first Title I Middle School in the state to earn whole school STEM certification! We serve a diverse ethnic population with 68% of the total population receiving free and reduced lunch. My gifted students make up 19% of the total population and love to read!
Our mission is to inspire, support, and prepare each student with a quality educational experience while building integrity and character to be successful and competitive in a global society.
My Project
My gifted learners love to read, and I want to keep them motivated with highly engaging, diverse books. The reading and writing standards for English/ Language Arts are very rigorous so it is imperative to keep that reading momentum going!
With classics such as The Great Gatsby and to Kill A Mockingbird and newer titles such as Speak, Monster, and The Crossover, my students are sure to remain engaged and excited about reading!
The titles selected will help meet those rigorous reading standards, add to culture awareness, reflect the everyday struggles of many of my students, and celebrate their diversity.
