Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are English language learners primarily in the 1st and 2nd grade. My students dream of being doctors and lawyers. I don’t want poverty to stop their dreams from becoming reality. They come from low-income households and have limited opportunities to be on the same playing field as their peers.

For the most part, our students perform below grade level.

They live in an urban area with many challenges, in and out of school. Many of our students do not even have the resources to buy coats, hats, and gloves.

My Project

I do not currently have a large file cabinet. If I were to get one, I could organize my papers according to themes, months and/ or seasons. I would better utilize the resources that I currently have.

My students would benefit from this project.

Readers' theater can be easily on hand. Other projects that can be done through the year are The Mitten and The Hat by Jan Brett. Each project can have its own file for easy access and usage.

In addition, I would appreciate file folders, envelopes and laminating sheets. We use use envelopes to send letters home to parents and I like to laminate materials so I can use them for several years. The kids love having manipulatives that assist with sight word learning, phonics and so on.
