Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend my resource reading class to bring up their reading levels and be more successful in school and in life. Most of my students have a hard time staying focused while in class, and my goal is to make them feel that they are in a safe learning environment where they don't have to feel judged.
I teach at a Title I middle school in an urban neighborhood.
Seventy-four percent of our students qualify for free or reduced rate lunches. Many come from very technology-poor homes. My students love technology and topics where they can discuss issues and express opinions. My school lacks the technology to meet my students’ needs, and I am concerned that their lack of exposure will not prepare them for the technology fluency requirements in high school. My goal is to create a classroom environment where students are motivated by technology to improve their literacy and communication skills.
My Project
During the school day I teach Special Education Reading. My goal is to have the students create 3D models of the main parts of the stories to fully comprehend the passage. The 3D printers use filaments for the printing and, to make this idea come to life, I am in need of different color filaments to keep my students interested and engaged. The models will be set up throughout the classroom with a brief summary about the scene, to help improve their writing as well.
After school I teach the very first Robotics course our school has offered.
The requested colored filaments for the 3D printer will be used for this class as well, to create extra pieces that students may need because they lost a piece or it broke. This is a wonderful opportunity for student to use technology they don't have at home.
