My Students

I teach in a high poverty school. My students need to be exposed to a wide range of quality children's literature. My students are not read to at home or even have books at home to read. My passion is inspiring children to read and my goal is to help each student find their own passion for reading.

I teach amazing kids that come from high poverty.

The neighborhoods they live in are not generally the safest places. My school is a Title 1 school and our free and reduced lunch rate is 77%. I have reading levels in my 5th grade class that range from 1st grade to 6th grade+. My students, in general, enjoy coming to school because it is a safe and consistent atmosphere where they are loved.

My Project

By having these books, which are quality and award winning children's literature, added to our classroom library, my students' knowledge of vocabulary will be widened. By reading children's literature with rich language my students' writing skills will also be increased. By reading good examples of word choice they will be encouraged to use rich language in their own writing.

This project is very important to me because by adding these wonderful books to our library, my students' knowledge of literature will be increased and so will their love for quality children's literature.
