This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

If I could describe my students in 5 words they would be loving, thoughtful, supportive, engaging, and hungry for knowledge. We are located in Monmouth County and are considered a low-income district. The majority of our students receive free or reduced-priced​ lunch. Minority enrollment is 92% of the student body (majority Hispanic), which is higher than the New Jersey state average of 54%.

I teach two math classes of amazing and diverse learners.

I support all types of students, including students with special needs and English Language Learners. They are incredibly motivated and engaged in math content and are excited about each and every class.

My Project

The Hand2Mind Fluency kits help build true fluency built through number sense and flexibility. Each kit would help provide my students with the hands-on and motivating learning experiences they require.

My students thrive in math through the use of manipulatives and real-life experiences.

The kits give different visuals and manipulatives to support students. For example, there are anchor charts to ensure retention of learning of skills and concepts. The math talks included support communication and explaining math thinking while supporting language development. The number of skills and concepts that are incorporated in the kit are endless! The Hand2 Mind Fluency kits would fit into my math instruction and supplement the work we already do to create thriving mathematicians.
