My students need a classroom set of Ukuleles! Please help us to grow as musicians and community leaders!
This project expired on December 24, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students are enthusiastic about building their musical repertoire! They come from various cultural backgrounds, all of which use music as a means of expression and communication.
This will be my first year teaching at this school, and I want to give students an opportunity to learn to play an instrument that they may have never had experience with before.
Community outreach is an excellent tool for young musicians to serve their peers and elders. It is my hope that students will have the opportunity to play in a number of venues.
Students will learn to play the Ukulele and perform in school as well as in the community. They will begin by learning basic chords which will enable them to accompany familiar folk tunes. Throughout the school year they will progress to learn more complex chord progressions and strumming techniques. The unit will culminate with a composition project in which students will compose and accomplish their own songs within a set of guidelines.
In addition to becoming independent musicians, this unit provides students with many opportunities for partner and small group work.
It will build confidence, pride, self esteem and school spirit.
