This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a class of 22 amazing and inquisitive transitional kindergarten students in a Title I community, located in the inner city, in one of the largest cities in the country.

I feel honored to educate and motivate my highly energetic and curious class of 4-year-olds.

Most of my little learners have never experienced school before, and they are so inquisitive about how their world operates and how to get along with their classmates. It is so rewarding to watch their self-confidence grow as they tackle and eventually master many new tasks each day.

To help my students overcome many of the challenges they face at home, I am excited to support my children with multiple learning experiences that address all skill levels in a respectful and compassionate way.

The more stimulating, hands-on manipulatives and centers I can rotate in my classroom, the more I can prepare my students for their eventual entrance into college and beyond!

My Project

Financial literacy begins with basic number concepts in my transitional kindergarten class. It is my goal to immerse my children with engaging and motivating hands-on manipulatives in which they can explore and become familiar with the patterns and concepts that children first need to become "fluent" in number sense concepts.

In order for my children to move toward concepts such as budgets, money saving, and money earning, my students need to first explore and master the basic foundations of numbers and how numbers relate to real-world situations.

Manipulatives such as the number nuts and bolts will give my students hands-on practice in number recognition. Thank you in advance for any donation you are able to give toward this project.
