Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My elementary school is a Title I school in Toppenish, Washington. All students at our elementary school receive free and reduced lunch, which means that all students who attend our school are impoverished. Our school is on an Indian Reservation. Native Americans consist of 33% of our school population. Most students in my class are English Language Learners and require extra support and materials to develop their English language proficiency and reach Washington State Standards. The first grade students at our school are hard working and persevere through every challenge.

My Project

For our first grade science unit, we study animal adaptations and their habitats. The students get to visualize what adaptations they would need to survive or live in certain habitats. There is only so much the students can learn through books and videos.

If the students get to see the animals in their habitats with their own eyes, they get the opportunity to see the adaptations and why the animals have those adaptations.

Our students will get to see the wonder of animals and how they act or what they need to survive.

Most of our students have never been out of their hometown. This is a chance for our students to see more of a big city. They will be amazed and excited about all they will learn. This trip will be something our students will remember for the rest of their lives.
