My Project
We are beginning a new school year and starting 4K is a Big Deal! I am so excited to meet my new preschoolers! I love their creativity and eagerness for learning! Most of my students come from low income households. I know they will have had limited exposure to educational experiences prior to starting school. I know they will be curious, wiggly and excited about meeting new friends. I also know that they will be apprehensive about spending a whole day with strangers in a new environment!
Sensory fidget toys will provide my students experiences to develop focus, fine motor skills, and help reduce stress and anxiety.
I want to provide my preschoolers with fun fidget trays and activities that they can use throughout the school day. Sensory toys such as squishies, pop tubes, play foam and kinetic sand provide young children with experiences to develop the small muscles in their hands and wrists. Many of my students will need to strengthen these muscles to help them manipulate writing tools and scissors. Colorful and engaging fidget toys are tools that help young children learn to concentrate on a task for an extended period of time.
Starting school for the first time is a stressful experience. Young children often do not have the coping mechanisms to deal with their emotions. Toys that pop, squish and bubble provide the physical movement and sensory stimulation needed to help them self soothe. These fidget toys and activities will provide me with tools in my teacher toolbox to help my students acclimate to a new school environment and to help them become happy, successful learners.
