Fidget Your Way to a Calmer Day

My Project

I was fortunate to receive training by an amazing company called Neuro Logic. It was the most beneficial training of my entire career. I am now able to implement those strategies to help not only the students in my own classroom, but students throughout my school. This training is where I learned about the power of fidgets in an instructional capacity.

Fidgets help relieve anxiety, help students focus on a task, stimulate the brain stem with movement and help soothe students dealing with trauma.

Students are taught that fidgets are not toys, but tools for learning. They help students focus on instruction, calm down when they are frustrated or angry and they help them learn to self-regulate.

Working in a school that has a lot of students that are dealing with trauma and the inability to self regulate has helped me become a better educator. I want to do my best for them so I can help them do their best for themselves. The strategies I use in our classroom are strategies I want them to take with them through their entire lives and not just within the walls of our classroom.

Fidgets are self-regulation devices that can increase a person's focus and attention to a task at hand. They provide a calming effect for a student who is feeling dysregulated, scared, agitated, or anxious. Fidgeting is a reflection of a wandering mind and actually helps students retain more information being delivered if used during instruction. Fidgets improve focus and reduce anger and anxiety in the classroom.

They are self-regulation tools which can help with the impulse for motion without negatively affecting attention and focus. Using fidgets helps people concentrate and improve performance by providing a distraction the brain needs without drawing focus away from the expected task. Thank you!
