This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the pleasure of teaching twenty-four super smart first graders. Unfortunately, my students come from a high poverty, low socioeconomic community. Ninety-nine percent of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Despite these circumstances, my children are full of spirit and have positive attitudes about learning. They absolutely love coming to school.
These first graders come in each morning with hugs and big smiles on their faces.
They are eager to learn and love for me to teach them new things. I want to make their learning experiences as meaningful and fun as possible.
My Project
First graders are very active and during seat work, it becomes very hard to sit still and get assignments finished. I have noticed over the past 25 years of teaching, that students that are allowed to fidget and move around, are more likely to finish their assignments. Students that are allowed to chew gum, also seem to focus better on their assignments.
We are asking for stretchy resistance fidget bands for students to bounce, kick, and stretch their feet on.
This allows students to get out unwanted energy while concentrating on their work. We also are asking for sensory rings and spiky rollers to help reduce stress and anxiety and chewing gum to help students focus on their work. All of these fidget items help first graders stay focused on the important things. Please consider a donation to our "Fidget Away" project.
