This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My wonderful new class of first graders are very eager to begin reading! My goal this year is to create book baskets of various genres and interests so my students do not just see a cluttered bookshelf full of books. Last year, I tackled my non-fiction books and this year, I want to organize fiction.

I have 24 happy, enthusiastic children in my classroom.

Most do not have books at home to read and enjoy, so I want to begin sending books from my personal classroom library home with them each night to strengthen their reading. I would like them to be able to select the books that interest them. I currently have a very cluttered, unorganized bookshelf of books.

My Project

The book baskets I am requesting will greatly assist my students in selecting books of interest and reading levels. I will organize my current classroom library into genre, favorite authors, and topics. Students will be able to select books of interest each night to take home and practice reading at home with their families. I have requested two pocket charts which will help me keep track of the books being sent home and being returned.

I have learned over my years of teaching experience that organization is KEY in a classroom running smoothly.

I am hopeful that organizing my classroom library will greatly benefit my students and in creating more successful and happy reading time in class and at home. I thank you for your consideration.
