Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are a Title I school in a small farming town. One hundred percent of our students receive free lunch and breakfast. Fifty-three percent of our students are English learners. Although we are located in an older neighborhood, it is a tight-knit community with lots of family support.

Our makerspace has totally transformed the library into a warm and inviting environment where students can explore, problem-solve and collaborate. Our library has minimal storage space. Recently, we had a large donation of yarn. Currently, the yarn is being stored in plastic bags underneath our tables.

This project is for an ECR4Kids classroom storage cabinet. This cabinet will help us organize and display our yarn attractively while providing a surface for a small book display. With an organized yarn stash, students will easily be able to find just the right yarn as they learn how to crochet, knit, and weave.

We also need plastic gimp string for our students to weave lanyards. Lanyards is a popular activity that encourages the design process and is great for eye-hand coordination. This project also includes laminating pouches and a yarn winder. We usually wind yarn by hand but with this large yarn donation, a yarn winder will be a big help in keeping our stash organized.
