My students who ride the bus frequently wait 30 minutes or more after school for the busses to arrive. We have been trying different mindfulness strategies during that time to help my students practice offline mindfulness and leave school calm.
For many of my students, this wait time is the last time each day that they can take a step back and chill before an afternoon of competing demands on their time from homework, taking care of siblings, and participating in demanding afterschool activities.
Through teaching them how to crochet, I'm hoping to provide a moment of relaxation, creativity, and mindfulness while also creating items that can be shared with the community, whether that is a stuffed animal, hat, or other crochet item.
