I work with grades 1 thru 8 at a Waldorf inspired Charter school in Rogue Valley in Oregon. We are a Title one school - serving children in the local area. We offer a rich arts based education to assist the children in developing their full selves. We are a rural school, and look out to beautiful farmlands with a view of Mount McLaughlin in the distance. The children come to school with joy and enthusiasm and a willingness to experiment and experience all that they can. Their joy for learning exudes into all that they do.
My Project
We sheared our school sheep in the spring and now want to use the wool in new ways. The children will learn how to wash the wool and then card it with hand carders.
Then they will create wet felted and needle felted projects with the wool, both flat and three-dimensional pieces.
We will dye some of the wool different colors with our natural dyeing that the children learned how to do last year.
The children are able to see the project from animal fleece to hand made the art project, learning how to sustainably make fabric from our own school sheep.
