My Project

I want to give our students more opportunities to experience that feeling by bringing tubanos and djembes into our music classroom.

These hand drums will provide students with exciting, hands-on opportunities to explore rhythm and percussion.

Students will learn how to create different sounds, perform rhythmic patterns, maintain a steady beat, and listen and respond to the musicians around them.

The tubanos and djembes will also allow us to explore different musical traditions and styles. Students can learn how percussion instruments are used around the world while developing an appreciation for the many ways people express themselves through music.

As students play together, they will develop much more than musical skills. Percussion activities encourage teamwork, cooperation, concentration, coordination, creativity, confidence, and self-expression. Students must listen to one another and understand that every musician has an important role in an ensemble.

As a Title I school, I want to make sure our students have access to meaningful musical experiences and quality instruments. Not every child has the opportunity to take private music lessons or own an instrument at home. Having tubanos and djembes in our classroom allows every student to have an instrument in their hands and a chance to participate.

These drums will also give students who may not feel comfortable singing or performing in other ways another avenue to find success. A student who discovers that they have a natural sense of rhythm may develop a new confidence that carries over into other areas of school.

With your support, our students will be able to feel the beat, find their rhythm, create music together, and discover the musician within themselves.
