My Students

Being creative means taking risks and ignoring doubt and facing fears. My students are incredibly important to me and they are so original in lots of ways that allow me to enjoy their company each and every day. Many of my students have not yet developed socially acceptable filters so they are amazingly candid and honest.

My students are always searching for inspiration in even the most mundane places.

I always say, "Being creative means you're thinking!" My students love to complete intricate puzzles, build with LEGOs, and create things. The difficulty is that most of my students are able to think of original ideas, but they haven’t spent enough time with any material to learn how to make the things they see in their minds.

My Project

We always worry about our struggling readers but often neglect our advanced students!

At least half of my class are reading one to two grade levels above and their needs must be met with leveled texts that will continue to allow them to grow while keeping their interest level and rigor where it needs to be.

It's not easy to find resources through school systems to purchase leveled readers that are research based. These books are full of bright illustrations and encourage students to grasp new vocabulary as well as build on existing background knowledge as well as allow students to make connections and add to their schema.
