My Students

I teach 6th grade English and Social Studies. The students in my classroom are extremely diverse in terms of learning needs, emotional needs, and socioeconomic background. My students love to use technology, read, and collaborate with each other.

I firmly believe that my students' learning opportunities should not be limited by their zip code.

They deserve to learn through hands-on activities, engaging curriculum, and opportunities for creative expression and I strive to provide these experiences for them.

In addition to my teaching duties, I coach my school's Speech and Debate Team and sponsor my school's Newspaper Club. These expanded learning opportunities give students the chance to develop important skills in communication, teamwork, literacy, writing, and creative expression. Supporting these students during out-of-school time is one of the highlights of my teaching career!

My Project

This project is focused on providing healthy snacks and breakfast options for hungry students. Having healthy food options in the classroom means that students will be able to stay in the classroom and remain engaged in learning instead of needing to leave to get snacks from another teacher or counselor. It is important to me to provide these items for my students because I know how hard it can be to learn when you are hungry.

Although my school provides breakfast for all students, my students sometimes miss breakfast and are frequently just hungry during the day because they are growing kids!

Last year, students frequently had to leave the classroom to access healthy snacks, which meant that they missed 10-15 minutes of learning per day. By having these snacks in my classroom, I'll be able to make sure that students maximize their learning time and stay engaged in their lessons.
