Feeding Future Agriculture Leaders

Help me give my students food and water so that they can have food security.

My Students

My students are motivated, hard working young individuals who have goals, dreams, and aspirations to have opportunities in agriculture. Some students work school days and weekends on their Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs), not because they have to, but because they get enjoyment from seeing their hard work pay off. Overall, the majority of my students are female and are interested in STEM.

My Project

Within my classroom, I try to make it a comfortable learning environment. From bringing in a class rabbit to buying a microwave so students could heat up food. I noticed that students were struggling to focus within my class and always complained about being hungry or thirsty. With help from a family friend, we were able to buy food and water for students. After a week my supply was out. I even had students who did not take my classes coming in and asking if they could eat (of course I said yes).

Studies show that children from homes that lack consistent access to food are more likely to experience developmental impairments in areas like language, motor skills, and behavior.

Children need nutrients so they can grow, develop and focus on learning instead of thinking about the food they need. Ultimately, they need to be able to concentrate in the classroom so they can succeed in school and be prepared to enter the workforce as adults. With this food, my students can focus on their education fully without being hungry.
