Students need strong math skills in order to cook and enjoy healthy foods!
I am a third grade teacher in a high poverty elementary school.
My students come from impoverished home situations and lack opportunities to enjoy healthy snacks and cook healthy and delicious foods. I want to provide my students with healthy snack options and give them instruction and practice that will provide them with the skills they need to cook healthy foods.
My Project
I am seeking two types of materials for my students. I am asking for healthy drinks and healthy snacks to give them nutritious snacks to enjoy during the school day. I am also seeking a variety of math games and various interactive hot dots activities to boost my students math skills. Cooking requires strong math skills including telling time, elapsed time, fractions, addition, and multiplication. The activities I am seeking will give my students hands-on opportunities to reinforce these skills so they will have the math skills they need to cook healthy foods at home.
