My Students

On the Big Island of Hawai`i, our students have deep understanding of community. Sharing is second-nature to them and they are always willing to help another student in need.

Our students embrace ALOHA in everything they do.

Students are finally returning to school full-time! Many of our keiki don't have all of the supplies and resources they need to excel. This is becoming especially challenging during the COVID-19 pandemic as family resources are even more strained. Student distancing in class prevent shared resources which my students have always been so ready to do.

My second graders are joyful, self-expressive, and resourceful! When they have even the basic resources they produce meaningful and reflective creations. It is so fun learning from them and helping them learn from each other.

My Project

I want to provide my students with a variety of tools to help them feel comfortable in the classroom and use their imaginations! The first part of the project is asking for books for our classroom library and read alouds. Books like the Questioneers series encourages and provides inspiration to follow different paths such as science, engineering, and activism. The second part of my project is aimed at providing flexible seating in the classroom so they can be comfortable while doing their work. This includes bean bag chairs, floor cushions, and fidget bands for their chairs. The last part of my project is asking for Legos for my students. My students in previous years have LOVED Legos and were always showing me their creations from home. We don't have any in my classroom and I want students to have the options to build and create during their free time.

The project is really aimed at helping students use their imaginations and get lost in their passions!

As our students return to school, I want our classroom to be a place where they feel comfortable to learn, grow, and create. Some of our students have not been in the classroom for over a year. I am hoping these resources will help them retransition into school smoothly and enjoyably!
